The man who killed a Rice University student in her dorm and then took his own life has been identified as Habeneyom Belai, a 22-year-old man from Florida.
Belai, according to online records, was a University of Florida student who studied physics and mathematics.
Rice University student Andrea Rodriguez Avila was found shot and killed in her dorm room at Jones College Monday.
Harris County medical examiners released more details on the homicide Wednesday.

A junior, Avila transferred to Rice, in Houston, Texas, last spring from the Community College of Baltimore County. She was from Nottingham, Maryland, and graduated from Perry Hall High School in 2021.
She was studying for a political science major with a focus on pre-law.
