Who was Crawford Bryant? Candelight Vigil Held for Columbia High School Soccer Star Killed in Accident

A Columbia High School soccer player was killed following a car crash on Hanover Road near Illinois route 3.

A Waterloo police officer observed a speeding car Sunday afternoon that was later found in a deadly crash. Crawford Bryant was pronounced dead on the scene.

Three other students in the car were transported to hospital, one with life-threatening injuries.

Columbia High School released a statement following the crash.

“Our hearts are broken, we are mourning the loss of a brother and teammate. Please [pray] for the families, our soccer family, school and community. #5 #ColumbiaStrong” it read.

A candelight vigil was held to honor Bryant Monday morning as well as to pray for the students still fighting for their life.

Following the vigil, the school posted the following statement: “It is with heavy hearts that we reflect on the recent passing of one of our students. Our community has come together in a profound way to honor this student. Thank you to all of those who attended tonight’s Candlelight Vigil to honor Crawford Bryant.

“Our thoughts are also with the other students who were injured, and we sincerely hope for their full and speedy recovery. The student’s legacy will forever remain a part of our community, reminding us of the importance of compassion, unity, and the love we share for one another. Let us continue to hold their family in our thoughts and be there for each other as we navigate this loss together,”

Bryant was a sophomore at Columbia High School who played varsity soccer and was described as a great guy by friends at the vigil.

“He was just an awesome guy,” Bryant’s friend Hayes Van Breusegen told 5 On Your Side.
