A Snellville man who was caught on camera hitting a three-year-old child in a Lillburn parking lot has been arrested and charged with cruelty to children.
The suspect has been identified as James Collins, 44.
The Gwinnett County Police Department identified and arrested Collins on Saturday and booked him into the Gwinnett County Jail.
The incident captured in a viral video occurred at the Kroger located at 3050 Five Forks Trickum Road in Lilburn.
The man in the video is seen telling the toddler in a car to ‘shut up’ and repeatedly struck the child. A woman who saw the incident rushed to Collins and exchanged words with him over his conduct.
Police obtained surveillance footage which aided in identifying the suspect.
The child, who sustained minor injuries, is in the care of a family member.
The Department of Family and Child Services has also been notified.
