A McAllen Rowe student and football player Adan De La Cruz has been injured in a tragic accident during a party at a family residence.
Cruz attempted to jump into a pool from a rooftop and suffered a mishap. Witnesses watched his Cruz fall and captured it on video.
A prayer vigil was organized for the injured player Sunday night but was canceled at his parent’s request.
A statement from the school read: “It is with a heavy heart that we share the news that one of our seniors, Adan De La Cruz, was involved in a tragic accident last night. We ask that you keep him and his family in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time. Additionally, we kindly request that you refrain from sharing any videos of the accident out of respect for the family and loved ones,”
De La Cruz is a three-year letterman at linebacker and one of Rowe’s top returning senior starters in 2024.
He was named a First Team All-District 15-5A DI selection as a junior last season after posting a team-leading 82 total tackles and five tackles for loss in 10 games.
