A woman who was killed on Friday while speeding in an attempt to escape a State Trooper has been identified by Virginia State Police.

Diamond Elizabeth Brooks, 26, of Newport News, died while trying to avoid being pulled over by a trooper in Hampton VA.

While speeding to escape the trooper, she lost control of her vehicle, rammed into a light pole, and died.

Virginia State Police (VSP) say just after 12 p.m. on Friday, a trooper witnessed a 2020 red Chrysler 300 sedan speeding on I-64 West.

The trooper pulled onto the roadway to conduct a traffic stop but the driver started going even faster and got off the interstate at the Hampton Roads Center Parkway exit.

The trooper drove up behind the vehicle on Hampton Roads Center Parkway, and that’s when she accelerated even further and tried to take a right onto Big Bethel Road.

The driver at that point “lost control” of her vehicle and crashed into a traffic light pole on the driver side. She died from her injuries.

State police identified her Saturday as 26-year-old Diamond Elizabeth Brooks, of Newport News.
