Rapper Rasheem Lee, known professionally as Sheemy, has gotten himself into quite a bit of a pickle as he has been arrested and charged with murder over a March 2023 shooting in Astoria, Queens.

Two men, 22-year-old Xavier Roberts and 21-year-old Jaheim Hamilton, were shot as they walked outside a building on Steinway Street and Astoria Boulevard last year.

Police released surveillance footage of three suspects with their faces covered in hoodies, but it wasn’t until this year that arrests were effected in the case.

Rasheem Lee professionally known as Sheemy is a drill artist from the Bronx, New York City, a member of the Yonkers gang “300” with the title Bloodhound Brim.

Lee dropped his first album Hidden Scars in March this year, a few months before his eventual arrest.

Sheemy started doing music at a very young age and credits influences including Chief Keef, Speaker Knockerz, and Boogie.

Sheemy frequently collabs with the DOA rapper Mhady2hottie, and the two have made quite a few drill tracks together including “D.O.E”, “Revive Em”, “Who Krazy ?” etc.

An interesting fact about Sheemy is that despite being affiliated with the 300 gang – who have an ongoing feud with the OGz gang – he has dropped singles with the OGz’ Choppa EBK, dropping the song ‘Balling4Diddy’.

The single was in honor of Brandon ‘B-Diddy’ Hendricks, an aspiring basketball star who was killed at 17 in a shooting incident. Both rappers were good friends with B-Diddy hence came together to release a tribute song in his honor.

According to Juice Magazine, Sheemy’s music “channels energetic vibes and impressive lyrical skills, positioning him as a promising future star of the drill rap scene”.

That future has been severely imperiled following his arrest for 1st degree murder in the 2023 shooting of two young men in Queens.

Two young men were gunned down and killed by a gang of three one fateful night in Queens last year, an incident that at the time no one publicly knew could be tied to Rasheem Lee.

The two victims were walking outside a building on Steinway Street and Astoria Boulevard on the night of Friday, March 31st, 2023 when they were gunned down.

Police found Xavier Roberts, 22, and Jaheim Hamilton, 21, with gunshot wounds to the torso. They were rushed to the NYC Health and Hospitals in Elmhurst but were both pronounced dead.

The three suspects in the murder fled the scene in a red Jeep Grand Cherokee with a red and black hood.

Police a few days after the murder released surveillance images of the three suspects who had hoodies on obscuring their faces.

Nevertheless, following a year of investigation, Rasheem Lee was arrested and has now been booked for murder.

Details of his arrest and charge sheet emerged on X (formerly Twitter), revealing he had been charged with 1 charge of first-degree murder, among others, at the Queens Supreme Court.

Lee or his camp has yet to come out to address this information.

Reactions to the shocking news have been varied, with some expressing little shock at Sheemy’s arrest.

Buddy was born 2002 and his life already over smh 🤦🏽‍♂️ now he gonn be eating noodles everyday,” user Only1-Ora said on Twitter.

One user also alleged that one of the people he’s charged with murdering was actually involved in a violent altercation with Sheemy a couple of years ago which ended with the rapper suffering a cut to his eye, but that info can only be verified once law enforcement release details about this case.

Tragically, it looks like the wildly promising career of Sheemy might end before it even begins.

The cycle of violence that continues to swallow up the futures of young men appears to be insatiable.

A lot is needed to be done to break this cycle but at the moment it does not seem likely at all. It seems more likely that these senseless acts of violence continue and those who are ‘lucky’ to not be killed only end up in jail, destroying their futures.
