Keaton McDermott, a high school football player from West Virginia has tragically been killed following an accident in Barbour County Sunday night, news of his demise and accompanying obituary completely coming as a shock to all.
News of the death of McDermott, who had only recently signed with West Virginia Wesleyan College to play track & field, sent a wave of sadness and mourning through his local community.
Mourners were flabbergasted over the death of such a young and promising talent, his future potential now all crushed by the cruel tides of fate.

Keaton ‘Beef’ McDermott, a standout athlete in West Virginia who had a bright future ahead of him has tragically died following an accident.
McDermott and his girlfriend were riding in his car in Philippi on the afternoon of Sunday, June 23rd, 2024 when tragedy struck.
A multi-vehicle crash led to McDermott losing his life. His girlfriend sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins before being airlifted to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown where she continues to fight for her life.
News of McDermott’s death has completely shattered his family as well as his schoolmates, teachers, coaches, and all members of his community who knew and loved him.
McDermott was a high-level athlete who had excelled at Philip Barbour High School and signed on to West Virginia Wesleyan College to play track & field.
He was a tank as a football player and also competed in track and field.
As a football standout, he was selected to the North-South All-Star game that recently took place in South Charleston.

As a track athlete, he won the Regional shot put title and consequently performed at the recent state track meet.
He was set to take his talents to college this fall when tragedy struck.
One of those to mourn him online was coach Jerry Handley who said: “Rest in peace and honor, “Beef” Keaton McDermott. I’m sure that weight room in the sky will be like a playground for you. You were enjoying your summer before starting college, like you’re supposed to. What I know from the 4 years I got to know you in the weight room and football field is that you were always an awesome person to be around, a leader through example who always kept a smile on his face and the face of others,”
He added that all those who knew McDermott would never forget him.
Lori Nicole also had nothing but great things to say about Keaton.
According to her, he was a force for cohesion in a world that’s increasingly getting more divisive.
She revealed he was also not shy about his love for God and sharing his faith with others.
“The world is a darker place after the loss of a young, beautiful soul of Keaton “Beef”….His spirit will forever grace those that knew him,” she said.
His team the Philip Barbour Colts also shared a touching tribute: “Please pray for the family of Keaton “Beef” McDermott, our team, our coaches, our school, and our community. If you were blessed to meet Beef, you loved him and at minimum really liked him. You will be missed by so many Beef, but the love you shared will resonate into eternity,”
Tribute after tribute laid out the immense character of McDermott and the love and light he had brought to this world.
No passing of this nature can be easy to fathom but for his loved ones, these great tributes testifying to his extraordinary character and values are bound to be a source of comfort.
