Kat Simons, a beloved radio personality out of Richmond, Virginia has died, according to an obituary in her memory shared by Mix 98.1 where she worked for well over two decades and made a name for herself.
Simons’ tragic passing has brought unbearable sorrow to her local community, her dedicated listeners, and also, her colleagues in the industry who are stunned at the news.
Her passing has left a deep void in the radio industry as well as in the hearts of all those who knew and loved her.

Kat Simmons, a beloved radio personality with Mix 98.1 Richmond (formerly Lite 98) has tragically died.
The death of Kat Simons was announced in a touching obituary shared by her employer Audacy Inc., the parent company of Mix 98.
According to the beautiful obituary, Simons hosted her radio show for close to three decades with “kindness and dedication,”
Simons was a midday DJ who graced the lives of Virginians with information, education, and entertainment, her “warm, smoky voice becoming a household staple throughout Richmond and Hampton Roads”, the obit continued.
Kat Simons originally hailed from Elkins in West Virginia where she attended Elkins High School.
She continued her education at Davis & Elkins College.

Simons was a well-known animal lover and a devotee to many animal rights causes, her love for our furry friends blossomed as she grew up on a farm in Elkins.
She relocated to Midlothian, Virginia, later in life but never left behind her love for animals.
Simons started out as a DJ for Lite 98 and remained with the station decade after decade through changes and rebrands.
Tragically, this bright light would be dimmed on Saturday, June 29th, 2024.
A cause of death for Kat Simons has not yet been announced.
Mix 98.1 had nothing but amazing words for the departed Simons.
“It is with profound sorrow that we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of our beloved Kat Simons
This loss has left a void in our hearts, one that seems impossible to fill,” the station said in its tribute.
The tribute pointed out Kat’s kindness and generosity which she freely displayed both to humans… and animals.
“She freely gave of her time and resources, surprising many with random acts of kindness, monetary gifts, gift cards, and thoughtful birthday cards,” it continued.
Simons’ love for animals manifested in her running a ‘Pet of the Day’ segment on her show. She owned a dog, Stevie, and several cats herself.
She also gave to numerous organizations including Richmond and Hanover ARC, Relay for Life, the VA, USO, the Alzheimer’s Association, Arthritis Association, SPARC, Faison, Children’s Hospital, the READ Center, and the Diabetes Association.
Simons’ passing also hit her current and former colleagues quite hard with amazing tributes coming in for her.
“Kat was a radio legend,” WTVR CBS 6 anchor and fellow animal lover, Greg McQuade wrote. “[She] dedicated her life on-air and off to helping homeless animals find their forever home across central Virginia,”
He revealed Kat was always ready to assist him in throwing contests at the Henrico Humane Society Pet Expo, among others.
The animal shelter Richmond SPCA also had incredible words for Kat.
“…What was truly remarkable about Kat was how sincerely she loved people, especially those who shared her dedication for protecting animals…if you met Kat, you knew right away that you had a friend and ally who would support, cheer for you and lift you up in every possible way,” their post read.
Many other colleagues shared amazingly touching tributes to Simons, sharing anecdotes and stories to demonstrate her kind heart and larger-than-life personality.
Kat Simons’ death would truly be felt, not just by the people whose lives she brightened with her on-air work but by the thousands of animals whose lives were touched in one way or another either by her philanthropy, advocacy work, or by just being a friendly face for animals.
Her legacy of love, kindness, devotion, and generosity, is certain to echo far into the lives of all those she touched, keeping her memory forever cherished.
