GoFundMe for Corey Comperatore, David Dutch, and James Copenhaver Raises Over $4m

A President Trump-authorized GoFundMe fundraiser that was started for those killed or wounded in the assassination attempt on his life has raised a whopping $4.6m with donations coming in from some of the biggest names in the conservative ecosystem.

The unsuccessful attempt on President Trump’s life led to the death of Corey Comperatore and left two more people critically wounded.

A GoFundMe created to raise money for them has seen hefty donations coming in from Elon Musk, Kid Rock, and Ben Shapiro, among others.

The fundraiser was launched in the aftermath of the assassination attempt by Meredith O’Rourke, a Tallahassee native and a National Finance Director and Senior Advisor to the Trump campaign.

In her description, Meredith said the President had authorized the fundraiser to raise donations for the supporters and families of those wounded or killed in the Saturday shooting.

The stamp of approval from the President was all it needed to become viable as donations poured into the account from anyone who is anybody in the conservative political ecosystem.

From X owner and the world’s richest man Elon Musk to music legend Kid Rock, UFC President Dana White, Republican Presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, Conservative commentator Ben Shapiro, and Florida Governor Rick Scott all chipped in huge sums of money.

Musk, Rock, White, and Scott all donated $50,000 to the fund while Ramaswamy gave $30,000. Ben Shapiro also chipped in $15,000.

As at the time of publication of this piece the fundraiser had raised a whopping $4.6m despite a modest initial goal of $1,000,000.

Over 60,000 had donated to the fundraiser.

The assassination attempt on the life of President Trump occurred in Butler, Pennsylvania on Saturday, July 13th, 2024 during a rally.

Gunman Thomas Crook came within an inch of taking the former President’s life after getting into position and managing to fire multiple shots at the podium.

Former fire chief Corey Comperatore, 50, was killed in the crosshairs of the attack as he protected his wife and two daughters. David Dutch, 57, and James Copenhaver, 74, also sustained critical injuries. The latter two are now listed as stable after receiving treatment in the hospital.
