Popular local Ankeny IA photographer, Drue Wolfe has died, a sad occurrence that has thrown the entire community into mourning.
Wolfe’s passing as reported by the Ankeny Fanatic, the publication he worked with, has thrown a sad wrench into the day-to-day activities of many in the community as they suddenly have a colleague, friend, and family member to mourn.
Drue Wolfe had made a name for himself as an absolutely fantastic photographer, but more importantly, as a good man who many could approach with their issues and be assured of a listening ear.
His compassion and generosity have been attested to in many tributes shared on social media since his passing, revealing a legacy of touching lives all means possible!

Drue Wolfe, from Slater, Iowa, passed away on June 11th, 2024 with his death being announced by his employer, the Ankeny Fanatic.
The Fanatic, the local publication covering high school sports with particular focus on the Ankeny Hawks and the Ankeny Centennial Jaguars, revealed that Wolfe had sadly died.
“Ankeny Fanatic is so sad to share the news that our wonderful photographer, Drue Wolfe, has passed away. Drue touched the lives of so many athletes over the years with his incredible photos, and he will be sorely missed,” the publication said.
The Fanatic went on to note how Drue’s photos tell a story in more than a thousand words and how he often was acknowledged by the athletes he covered for his skills and talents.
The publication sent out a message of condolence to the Wolfe family over their loss.
His death drew an outpouring of grief and support from many who knew him.
Pete Georgakakos, a doctor noted on Facebook that Drue had a ‘passion and a gift of photography’ and had blessed many people with the grace with which he captured their special occasions.
Pete, a former roommate and great friend of Drue’s, noted he had faced some hard times much like everyone else but always came out ahead.
He added that he’s “…blessed by the belief he is with his Savior and reunited with his dad in heaven,”
Another amazing tribute from Chris Jannsen said Drue was a “great man with a passion for photography and sports in Ankeny. I had the pleasure to fly him up to the Girls State Softball tournament and chat with him over the last year. This loss is going to be hard for many. He was truly and great guy with a great heart,”
Amy Boyd noted how Wolfe’s passing has devastated her entire family, including her girls. She noted Drue cared so much for her kids that they considered him their friend.
“What a huge asset Drue was to our community. He will be fiercely missed 💔” she concluded.
Drue Wolfe according to his LinkedIn account studied Business Administration at Cedarville University, graduating in 1992.
He then went to Iowa State University for a Business Administration, Management/Marketing diploma.
Employers include Wells Fargo, where he was a Control Associate, Café Died Coffee House which he co-founded in Ankeny as well as his passion project, Drue Wolfe photography.
The death of photographer Drue Wolfe has hit the residents of Ankeny hard as they grapple with losing the assuring presence of this absolutely immense photographer.
He will be sorely missed and his legacy forever honoured.
