Who was Andrew Faught? Illinois Correctional Officer Dead In Accident

A dense fog, a man on a mission, and reduced visibility – the elements conspired together to lead to a cruel twist of fate for Andrew Faught, a member of the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) Tactical Response team, who died in unexpected circumstances.

Faught, of Pontiac, Illinois, passed away in a traffic accident while on duty with the IDOC.

On April 8th, 2024, Faught was driving in the southbound lane around 7:30 a.m. when he attempted to pass another vehicle in the fog.

Unfortunately, he collided head-on with a vehicle in the northbound lane which he had not seen due to the conditions.

He died while the other motorist sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

His death was confirmed by a fraternity of his peers, the Fraternal Order of Police Illinois Corrections who shared in a post on Facebook: “We are saddened by the loss of our member/brother Andrew Faught. Our prayers are with his family, TRT and Pontiac CC.

A procession was held on Wednesday, April 10th to celebrate Faught’s six years of service with the Illinois Department of Corrections.

The procession was led by the Illinois Department of Corrections and members of the Illinois State Police, Oswego Fire Department, Grundy County Sheriff’s Office, Morris Police Department, and Morris Fire Department also joined in.

They honored Faught’s service and remembered him as an exemplary co-worker and the perfect man for the job.

Who was Andrew Faught?

Andrew John Faught was born in Joliet on February 22nd, 1997 to his parents, Timothy Faught and Linda Melby.

He grew up in Morris and attended the Morris Community High School, graduating in 2014.

He joined the IDOC in 2018, first serving at the Pontiac Correctional Center, then being promoted to Sgt., and most recently serving as a member of the Tactical Response Team.

The sad news of his demise has left his friends and family in shock and apprehension.

‘Drew’, as he was commonly called, was loved for being hardworking, kind, and a great person to have around.

His death served as a bitter pill to swallow for his family.

Drew leaves behind a legacy of determination, hard work, and commitment.

He is survived by his parents and their current spouses, eight siblings, his grandparents, and an assortment of other relatives.

May he rest in peace and may his service never have been in vain.
