Amare Witham, one of the best and most highly touted basketball prospects out of Glendale High School in Springfield, Missouri, has died.
Witham’s death has been confirmed by multiple sources and a GoFundMe fundraiser.
Unconfirmed reports allege Amare Witham died by suicide, which we are working to confirm one way or another.

Amare Witham was a Glendale High School basketball prodigy in Springfield Missouri and one of the most highly touted basketball stars in the country.
Witham played point guard for the Glendale Falcons and had already made a name for himself locally, often appearing in the papers due to his skill and style.
Witham scored a record-breaking 54 points when Glendale played Parkview, setting a Springfield Public Schools record and breaking a 49-year Glendale record.
In his last season, Witham averaged 24 points and was the biggest draw in the district.
It’s safe to say the class of 2026’s graduation was an expected massive event from which he was expected to go on to greater things in the NBA and beyond.
Tragically, it was not to be as Witham has been reported dead.
Jessica Myers, an aunt of Witham’s took to Facebook to mourn his tragic passing.
She wrote: “Last night I received the unthinkable call that my nephew Amare Witham had gone to heaven! He was such an amazing kid with a bright future ahead!”
Myers shared a GoFundMe fundraiser she started in Witham’s honor and called for the community to rally to help out his parents in this dark hour.
Another post from Sabrina Shockley hinted at what took Witham’s life as she wrote of the athlete’s shocking passing: “My heart hurts so bad. The devil is so busy. We have to pray and talk to our children. Every day please. And put all trust in God,”
Her post heavily hints at what the unofficial reports say that Amare Witham died by suicide.
Meanwhile, Myers’ GoFundMe fundraiser in Witham’s memory set a goal of $20,000 to help his parents celebrate him properly.
“We want to make sure that his family is able to give him the celebration of life he deserves without worrying about finances. I know this community is strong and will come together to show the love and support to help his family during this difficult time,” she said.
The tragic news of Witham’s death has shocked all and sundry considering his obvious talent and local celebrity.
Many are struggling to come to terms with what might make such a young man with a bright future get so down that he sees no other way out.
This tells us a lot about the complexities of life and that things are not so as simple as they seem.
As Shockley said, we have to hold our children and keep them tighter. You cannot know everything but you can only do the best you can.
