Who was Christopher Hallahan? Man Killed in Old Saybrook Boating Accident

One person was killed and two remain missing following a deadly boat crash in Old Saybrook on Labor Day.

The crash happened at the mouth of the Connecticut River near the Harbor One Marina Monday night when the 31-foot boat crashed into a jetty at high speed.

One person, Christopher Hallahan, 34, of Westbrook CT, was killed.

Two other people, both in their 20s, remain missing and a search continues to find them as of Wednesday morning.

Hallahan was a well-known personality in the area, according to John Hall, the first selectman of Westbrook.

He graduated from Westbrook High School and was a member of the town’s community center committee, which was charged with bringing forward a proposal for a central gathering place for recreational and other activities for the town.

His father, Christopher Hallahan Sr, is a well-known Westbrook contractor. The father-son duo work together to run the business.

Nine people were aboard the boat when the crash occurred. The driver was hospitalized in critical condition while the others are largely ok with minor injuries.

The search for the missing boaters intensified Tuesday but was unsuccessful.

Search crews on five boats conducted the Tuesday search and resumed at 8 a.m. Monday with a few more vessels set to join in the search.

According to records, Hallahan previously had a 1997 Fountain Powerboats vessel registered to him, the same make as the boat involved in the crash.. It’s not currently clear if that was his boat involved in the crash.
