First responders have located the body of a 17-year-old boy who went missing in the Pascagoula river in Mississippi on Monday evening.
Authorities received a call about an accidental drowning in the river near Mixon Lake on Monday and commenced a search that lasted through the night and throughout the day Tuesday.
Late Tuesday night, the body of Jacob Mullen was recovered about a quarter mile away from where he was last seen.
Officials with the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks revealed the teen went underwater near Mixon Lake and that the search had been challenging with large amounts of tree debris in the water.
Following his disappearance Monday, the George County Sheriff’s Office had sent out a message on social media.
“Local Search and Rescue teams, along with Game & Fish officers, Jackson Co. Flotilla, Department of Marine Resources, Mississippi Highway Patrol Dive Team, and other emergency personnel, are working to locate the missing individual,” the GCSO post reads. “We are incredibly grateful for their efforts and dedication during this difficult time.”
