Who is Sean Higgins? Woodstown NJ Man Arrested for Drunk Driving Accident that Killed Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau

Sean Higgins, of Woodstock NJ, has been arrested and charged with two counts of death by auto after his car hit and killed NHL star Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew.

Higgins, 43, slammed his Jeep Cherokee into the two brothers who were cycling on County Route 551 in Salem County, NJ on Thursday night.

The incident led to the brothers, who were in town to attend their sister Katie’s wedding on Friday, being declared dead on the spot.

Higgins appeared in court Friday and was remanded into custody until September 5th. He reportedly admitted to officers that he had about five or six beers before driving and believed the alcohol lead to him being impatient while driving.

According to the Daily Mail, Higgins is a father of two and a U.S. Army veteran.

He had served in the 44th Infantry Brigade Combat Team in Kosovo and was promoted to Major during a state leadership visit to the former Yugoslavian republic in 2019.

He also served as the Regional Command-East Civil-Military Cooperation chief during the tour.

Higgins is based in Woodstown, New Jersey, where he is believed to live with his wife and their two young daughters.

According to court records, he had two prior cases in North Carolina during the early 2000s. The records show he was charged with DWI in 2005 but the charges were voluntarily dismissed due to the officer involved not showing up in court.

Higgins also had a speeding ticket in 2001 that was dismissed because of his good driving record at the time.
