Michael Escolas, a 42-year-old from Oxford, MA, has been arrested after an OUI crash in Plainville left a 10-year-old boy dead.
The crash on Route 1 involved an SUV that Escolas had stolen from a parking lot at Gillette Stadium and a Nissan Altima occupied by a family.
Escolas was traveling on Route 1 at a high rate of speed when he collided with the Nissan, leading to the death of the child and injuries to his mother, father and three siblings.
The crash at the red light at the intersection with Interstate 495 led to three additional cars at the intersection also getting involved in varying degrees of collisions. Occupants of those cars were not injured.
Escolas was later arrested and is expected to be arraigned Monday in Wrentham District Court on charges of motor vehicle manslaughter – OUI, larceny of a motor vehicle and associated charges.
He told the media following his arrest: “I’m so sorry. I have a 10-year-old boy, too,”
