A 46 year old man, Christopher Elder shot and killed his girlfriend and her mother after a domestic violence hearing at the Hardin County Courthouse.
Elder killed 37-year-old Erica Riley, of Elizabethtown, and her mother, 71-year-old Janet Rylee, of Hardinsburg, and injured another male relative of theirs.
He then fled from police and later shot himself during a police standoff.
Elder was transported to hospital and is currently in critical condition.
According to reports, the shooting occurred when all involved had arrived at the courthouse for a domestic violence hearing (likely an Emergency Protective Order).
Elder reportedly shot them “ambush style” in the parking lot after the hearing.
He fled after the shooting and was tracked by police to far western Kentucky. He then shot himself during a standoff with police and was sent to a hospital in critical condition.
