Woman and 5-Year-Old Daughter Killed In Campbell County Crash Identified

A woman and her 5-year-old daughter who were killed in a crash in Campbell County, VA, have been identified.

Madilyn Ballard, 26, of Altavista, and her 5-year-old daughter Briella were the victims of a two-car crash on Route 501 early Monday.

Ballard was driving a Kia Forte southbound in heavy rain when she lost traction, crossed into another lane and struck a tractor-trailer head-on.

According to Virginia State Police, both occupants of the Kia Forte, Ballard and her daughter, were pronounced dead on the scene.

The VSP reports revealed Madilyn was wearing her seatbelt and Briella was in an appropriate child seat.

The truck driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for observation and treatment.
